Tap End Stud has a short thread length on the tap end side which is usually threaded to Class UN-3A fit. Into a tapped hole its sides are screwed. With a Class UN-2A fit the nut end of a stud is threaded. The stud length is measured form end to end. The tap end has a chamfered point, even so the end of the nut can have either round raduised end or a 30 Deg or 45 Deg chamfered end at the client needs or requirement. It can be measured from the end to its last graze, end of the chamfer to the last full thread or any combo of last graze, last full thread or end of the chamfer.

DIN 939 is for double end studs. It is a machine threaded fasteners without head. It can or cannot be fully threaded and also depends upon the length of fastener. It depends on the application, both its ends can achieve a nut or one of the ends it can be threaded into a pre-tapped hole by leaving the other end accessible for joining a mated element secured with a nut. Studs accumulation provides numerous advantages over bolts. It evicts the requirement for perfect square ness in an assembly which allows a nut to "float" and gets adjusted on the thread ends of nut. Moreover tap end studs can also act as pilots to calm the assembly and disassembly of mated components.
