Coupling Nuts is also known as extension nuts. It is used to join two threaded rods or pipes, including threaded rods or pipes of varying sizes. It is usually constructed in a hex shape for wrench hold, the most common uses for coupling nuts are pushing a completed rod assembly outward or tightening rod assemblies. Coupling nuts threaded with two different thread sizes and profiles are called Reducing Coupling Nuts.

Stainless Steel Coupling Nuts variations include reducing coupling nuts, for joining two different size threads; sight hole coupling nuts, which have a sight hole for observing the amount of engagement; and coupling nuts with left-handed threads. Round Coupling Nuts has smooth rounded body for a finished look. It is used to connect and extend threaded rods. Metric Coupling Nuts is used to connect any two threaded items like two pieces of threaded rod. It has a coarse right-hand machine screw threads at both the ends. Its length is dependent upon size, which is about 3 times the size of the nut.

Long Coupling Nuts are used to make up long rod assemblies from shorter lengths of rods. For a certain distance the rods are threaded into the coupling nut. Hex Coupling Nuts are useful to attach two pieces of threaded material. It is threaded on right hand. If a right hand-left hand coupler is required, consider using a sleeve nut. Acme Coupling Nut is found in hand-powered clamps, vises, grates, doors, and work tables, lead screws. It has broad, square threads that are well suited for high clamping forces, quick assembly, and lifting and lowering heavy objects.
