Lock Nut is also known as locking nut, prevailing torque nut, self-locking nut, stiff nut or elastic stop nut it is a nut that resists loosening under torque and vibrations. Elastic stop nuts and prevailing torque nuts are of the particular type where some portion of the nut damages elastically to offer a locking action. Self Locking Nuts has an internal thread form the counterpart of a screw which ensures that the attached screw does not come loose. The number of elements is also reduced by the feature of the self-locking nut, After all no further securing elements are needed. Stainless Steel Lock Nut will not loosen, even under intense vibrations. They are different on each side which makes them very difficult to get off. There may come a situation when you need your lock nut detached. SS Lock Nut should be used when the screw joint contains of one or more soft materials. Due to high surface pressure it is difficult to achieve and to maintain a high level of clamp load because the soft material deforms. It is corrosion resistant alloy of iron, chromium and, in some cases, nickel and other metals. The advantageous properties of it are high corrosion resistance, cryogenic toughness, hot strength, ductility and hardness with low maintenance.
