The specification for 8.8 Grade Bolt standard covers all high tensile fasteners like Bolts/ Screws /Studs. This type of 8.8 Bolt could either have Coarse thread and fine pitch thread formation. The standard Grade 8.8 Bolts has been manufactured from Low or medium carbon Alloy Steel. These steel grades are comparatively cheaper and less strong. In a partially or fully annealed condition, the tensile strength of the 8.8 Hex Bolt is around 420 Mpa for low carbon steel and 500 Mpa for medium carbon steel, its core hardness in terms of Rockwell lies between B71 – 95. The surface hardness of the 8.8 Metric Bolt can be increased through carburizing.
Although low and medium carbon steels have a low tensile strength, they are ductile. Hence they are easy to shape and are used in applications which tends to make the most of the ductile feature of the alloy. For instance, the 8.8 Lag Bolt is used in mechanical equipment’s, buildings, bridges, tunnels, high speed railways etc.
The size range of the Hsfg Bolts Grade 8.8 in a fully or partially annealed condition is between M5 to M100. While the Structural Bolts grade 8.8 is available in self finished colour, other finishes applied to the steel alloy in order to provide additive value in terms of enhancing the physical or mechanical properties like its corrosion resistance and strength. Using Zinc either in the form of hot dip galvanization or for plating with white/ blue /yellow passivation increases the corrosion resistance of the 8.8 Allen bolt. Other finishes used on the Class 8.8 Bolt include blackened, nickel plated, cadmium plated and chromium plated.
