ASTM A563 specification covers the requirement for carbon and alloy steel nuts. ASTM A563 Grade A Nut has carbon in it the more carbon it is added, harder and stronger it gets when heat treated. But A563 Nut also becomes less ductile, which means it loses strength when deformed and isn’t as malleable. With or without heat treatment, a higher carbon content in A563 Dh Nut makes the metal less weldable, and the more carbon there is, the lower the melting point. ASTM A563 Grade A Square Nut are designed to go with square head bolts, they have generally been replaced by the cheaper hexagon nut or the square pressed nut. It is used in conjunction with square bolts or is commonly used with pole line hardware.
ASTM A563 Grade B Heavy Hex Nut is thicker and heavier in weight. Its part has a larger diameter across the flats. It also needs larger wrenches and sockets when being installed. The load strength is higher as compared to standard hex nut and it can bear more weight very easily. ASTM A563 Grade C Lock Nut is a nut that will resist loosening under vibration and torque. There are many types of lock nut but they can be widely divided into those which use friction to stop loosening and those that have some form of positive locking device.  ASTM A563 Grade DH Cap Nut serves to protect the bolt threads underneath, but also provides a cleaner appearance, and may improve safety on certain joints and applications. When the application needs a smooth finish, or all rough-edged fasteners and exposed threads must be covered than cap nuts offers an excellent solution for this kind of situation. A563 Hex Nut is a six sided general purpose fasteners with internal screw threads. It is one of the most common nuts available and it is used with anchors, bolts, screws, studs, threaded rods and on any other fastener that has machine screw threads.
